Isle of Cloudy Skyes

Saturday May 30, 2026

Lochcorran, Scotland

Distance traveled: 246 km. Cumulative distance: 3406 km.

Weather: 13 - 15 degrees, cloudy at the start then cloudy and rainy. And windy, but not like yesterday.

We had mixed feelings about venturing out today. We were both tired from yesterday's ride from hell, but not wanting to waste a day, especially as we are in the 9th inning, we forced ourselves to get out there, albeit with a less ambitious itinerary than we had originally envisioned. Even though it wasn't raining when we ventured out, the sky was still threatening, as was the weather forecast.

We were heading to the Isle of Skye, with a modest route planned and to play it by ear as to whether we would venture as far as the northern tip and/or stop at sights of interest or just ride, It would depend on the weather and how tired we were feeling.

The weather cooperated for the first hour and a half and I was almost thinking I could ride longer than the itinerary as it was planned, which was about four hours' worth but the reality is that when we reached the northern point of the itinerary, I was happy we were turning around and heading back to the B&B. In addition, it was starting to rain so I was thankful I had donned a rain jacket over my motorcycle gear at the rest stop.

Even though I had historic sights bookmarked along the itineray, we were just as happy to keep riding directly to the B&B. Do not pass GO, do not collect $200. I was thankful that we were out and the riding was realatively easy, given that the roads were primarily two lanes so even though it was windy, I didn't feel like there was a risk we were going to be blown off the road, so that was more than enough.

By the time we returned to the B&B, we had been out for five hours. We were both sore from having been riding so hard yesterday. I laid on the bed in our room, and fell asleep.

We returned to our favourite Lochcarron bistro, for the second night in a row, walking the 1.2 km to the place. It is run by a Polish couple who had immigrated to Scotland many years ago and purchased the restaurant here five years ago. It is a 22 seat restaurant, totally run and managed by the couple - no staff whatsoever. Great little restaurant with traditional Scottish food, well made and delicious.

Dual train and auto tunnels.

Reforestation area. Trees are planted with stakes. We are guessing because of the frequent winds.

In the distance, you can see the tenuous connection
of the Isle of Skye to the Scottish mainland.

Eas a' Bhradain waterfall, right beside the road on Isle of Skye.
